Malaysia Shipowners’ Association (MASA) is an organization representing Malaysian Shipowners. It was formed by pool of shipowners in 1976 who believed through unity they can protect their mutual interest and promote the growth of the industry together with the National agenda.
Over 40 years, MASA has mapped successful journey and reating its own legacy in the industry by becoming the sole organization bridging the authorities and the industry through various engagement sessions such as forums, seminars and conferences. MASA takes the role and responsibility seriously and engages in highlighting issues towards the enhancement and strengthening the development and sustainability of national shipping industry.
MASA membership has been extended to other maritime fraternities which are known as Associate members. Amongst of them are the brokers, insurance companies, suppliers, ship classification and other relevant industries. As at May 2019, MASA has a total of 267 members consist of 109 Ordinary members and 158 Associate members.
By having the shipping fraternity in the association under one umbrella, MASA presence will become more significant and the maritime industry will be represented in totality.
To be the leading organization for promoting the viable and effective growth of the Malaysian shipping industry, supporting the national aspiration to be a major maritime nation.
• To protect and promote the interest of members
• To assist in the development of the Malaysian maritime industry
• To collaborate in efforts towards the continuous improvement of maritime standards for mutual benefits.
• To promote and protect the interest of Malaysian shipowners.
•To assist the Government of Malaysia in its effort to develop a commercially viable and efficient national fleet for domestic and
international trades.
• To represent members of the association in their collective dealings with the Government of Malaysia and its agencies, shippers’ and other
organizations on matters of mutual benefits.
• To foster mutual assistance and co-operation among members and to provide forums for discussion and exchange of views on matters of
mutual interest. At the discretion of the Executive Committee to make or assist any member to make representation to any Government
agency or organization or individual as necessary.
• To collate and analyze data, publish and distribute newsletters and other periodicals disseminate information of interest to members, subject
to prior approval of the competent authority.
• To conduct courses, seminars or lecturers to further the professional skills of members.
• To support educational and training institutions involved in maritime affairs.
• To become a member of international organizations for the benefits of members and to represent Malaysia at international shipping meetings
and forums as necessary.
• To rent or own premises and engage required personal to conduct the activities of the Association.
