Message from The President of Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM)
This year has been a tough one for all of us. Ours is an association with a diverse membership that includes shipyards, classification societies, parts suppliers and vendors, marine equipment manufacturers, marine design services, and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) entities.
The Movement Control Order was an unprecedented event that raised a lot of questions and concerns among our members. For the first time, we were faced with a situation where it was not very clear which of our services were considered essential and which were not. But like all difficult situations, we persevered – and continue to persevere – with guidance from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Transport.
In keeping with the government’s recommendations on social distancing, we have taken certain steps for the protection of our team, our members and stakeholders, such as activating our e-Engagement Mode to avoid unnecessary close interactions. Now, meetings are held only through online platforms. Steps such as this may continue for some time as the country strives to get the COVID-19 pandemic under control.
As we navigate through what is still uncertain times, we remain optimistic that our industry and economy will recover soon. And as we look forward to the future, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Marshall Cavendish (M) Sdn Bhd for inviting us to be a part of their 2020/2021 Malaysia Marine & Offshore Industries Directory. It is a privilege to be included in one of the most respected directories in the country.
From our industry to yours, we congratulate you on another successful publication and wish you all the best.
Mr. Soo Jee Main
Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM)
